Building A House Day-By-Day Review

This is a very nice book, and well published, it is the day-by-day journal of a guy who has a new house built. Every day, the author tells you what is going on with the house, from finding the land, to getting a loan and a contractor, to checking directly the on-going construction.
There is a lot I like about the book: it is straightforward and unpretentious. Obviously the author has his own job, so he can only do so much for the house: principally buy and bring out some forgotten parts to the guys on the job, give tons of phone calls, check frequently what is going on. What is interesting is that you got to understand what the owner can do to get things going and what really has a life of its own (bankers, lawyers and the weather do their sweet thing when they want). Most of the time lost was with permits, bankers and lawyers, so you might like to start on that early.
The building is a success: it was only a month late and less than the usual 10 percent over budget, and the owners are happy with the result. You got to conclude that the author did a good job. Some things I guess I would do better, because I like to think about all the details beforehand, but for many things I probably would do much worse, except that now, I got the book!
I enjoyed it, and i plan to read it again when the building time comes.
