(More customer reviews)First, if you are looking for a thriller, a romance, a horror novel, a comedy, or a magnificently colored glossy coffee table book, or even an ag-related book published with millions of dollars in editors, professional photographers, starring the most talented chickens that the William Morris talent agency has to offer, then you're not going to like this book, and as with Mr. Lopes and his 1-star review, you should stop reading now and move on. This book isn't for you.
Like one of the other reviewers wrote, Ms. Merriam's book reads as if you're sitting with the author and her husband having a cup of coffee in their kitchen. So let's talk about that conversation...
Merriam's book does provide information on chickens that some may think are beyond the book's scope. However, like a stroll through the backyard with Sue explaining the habits and details of keeping chickens, it is in explaining these details that Ms. Merriam makes clear the necessity of a chicken tractor, especially if you don't have a space that you want to dedicate solely to chickens. In fact, through this discussion, Merriam makes it clear that raising chickens in suburban and even small yard urban areas, is completely feasible!
From the nature of this topic, it's clear that the Merriam's enjoy being hands-on and self-sustaining; raising chickens is not a passing fad for them. Therefore, spending lots of money on heavy glossy stock, and expensively reproduced color pictures, would contradict their message that using a chicken tractor to help raise chickens can be beneficial in so many ways, including financially. It's a simple matter of the physical product being in total agreement with the message.
Within these parameters, Ms. Merriam's book succeeds without question. Do you recycle? Do you have or enjoy pets? Do you enjoy working outside? Do you enjoy the satisfaction that comes from doing something yourself and doing it well? Then this book will absolutely appeal to you, and will be money well spent.
