(More customer reviews)My passion for boat building started by amassing a formidable library on the topic. John Leather's book stands out. The book is beautifully written by a craftsman of traditional boatbuilding who is also a naval architect. It is comprehensive in scope and treats important subtleties for the novice including careful descriptions of clench nailing, fairing, and the making of useful jigs and specialty tools. The book reads so well that it is as at-home on the bedside table as it is on the shop bench. It should be bought first to whet one's appetite for the craft and then to serve as a reference for the new builder.
